Introducing The Blog - Ramsey, MN photography and design

So I've experienced the 5 stages of starting a blog: curiosity, intimidation, education, inspiration, and excitement. At least that's how it worked for me. And I landed here, my very first blog post for Parkplace Studio.

I've been on a mission to deliver my clients more, while being true to myself and staying inspired. This is where it all starts. A place to share photography and inspire you to be creative and surround yourself with things you love.

Through meeting families and participating in creating a visual memento of their relationships with each other, I have learned that it isn't about being pretty, having just the right outfit, or even being in a stellar location. I've done photo shoots where all of this was strategically put into place, yet the images fell flat. Although all this gorgeousness is a plus (a killer pair of boots and coordinating outfits never hurts!) what's crucial in creating a successful photo shoot for me, is capturing the closeness of a family. Comfortable, relaxed images with the love for one another showing through.

Although exciting, we all get a bit nervous, impatient, maybe even overwhelmed leading up to family photos. My goal is to peel all that away, be sillier than you might feel yourself, and make it fun! I recently worked with a new client who told me prior to the session that her 18 and 20 year old step sons DO NOT like getting their pictures taken. Challenge accepted! Of course in the back of my mind I'm thinking, "What am I getting myself into?" but I had a plan. After sharing a sneak peek with her just a few days ago, this is the email she sent me:

"OHMYGOODNESS! Thank you! We had SOOOO much fun with you!!!
We were so relaxed and it was SOOO enjoyable! THANK YOU!
We went to dinner afterwards and you were the talk of the table, it was awesome!
Have a BLESSED day!"

Now that's what a girl likes to hear! I believe photography is important. I also believe that how you feel when you look at your photography is just as important. The experience plays a big part in that. I want you to want to surround yourself with your photography.

Here are a few shots that make me "feel the love!"

Jess - Great shots, Kelly! My favorite is the one with the two boys. I can feel the brotherly love!
